Therapeutic Approaches
My Approaches to Counselling
I draw from a variety of therapeutic models to create a personalized, flexible approach that best meets your needs. Each person’s journey is unique, and I believe in tailoring my techniques to support your specific goals. Here are some of the key approaches I use in my work:
Solution-Focused Therapy: This approach emphasizes finding practical solutions to current challenges. Together, we’ll focus on your strengths and resources to build a path forward and achieve your desired outcomes.
Narrative Therapy: I help you explore the stories you tell yourself and the meanings you attach to your experiences. By shifting perspectives, we can rewrite your narrative in a way that empowers you and fosters growth.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): DBT focuses on developing skills in emotional regulation, mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, and distress tolerance. It’s particularly helpful for managing intense emotions and building healthier coping mechanisms.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT helps identify and challenge negative thought patterns that may be holding you back. By shifting these patterns, you can change behaviors and improve your emotional well-being.
Mindfulness: I incorporate mindfulness techniques to help you become more present in the moment, reduce stress, and enhance self-awareness. This practice is valuable for managing anxiety, depression, and overall mental health.
Person-Centered Therapy: At the heart of my approach is the belief in your innate capacity for growth. I provide a nonjudgmental, empathetic space where you can explore your feelings and experiences, knowing that you are supported and accepted.
When working with children and youth, I often integrate tools like play and art to create a relaxed environment where they can express themselves freely without feeling the pressure of traditional talk therapy. These creative approaches allow them to process emotions in a way that feels comfortable and natural.
I believe strongly in collaboration throughout the therapeutic process. When working with children, I find it essential to include parents in the journey. This might look like having parents join sessions, scheduling separate parent meetings, or even involving siblings when appropriate. I also work closely with schools to ensure that support extends beyond our sessions, fostering a holistic approach to the child’s well-being.
Ultimately, my goal is to work alongside you—and your family, if needed—to support your growth, well-being, and resilience in a way that honors your unique experiences and needs.
